Colonialism is the primary obstacle to peace
The controversy in Israel over what are referred to as “rogue settlements” is highly instructive because the vernacular employed to carry out the debate demonstrates just how far logic has been bent in order to justify the theft of Palestinian land. Simultaneously, it should show the US government that the settlements it defends in practice while criticizing (albeit meekly) in word are not minor transgressions that only Palestinians find offensive: They are in fact the moral wellspring from which militancy bubbles forth, a blight on 5,000 years of Jewish tradition, and a key source of division among Israelis themselves.
